Location
Tarangire National Park is an often-overlooked gem on the northern safari circuit and therefore quieter than its more renowned Park neighbours. This Park is well known for its stunning baobab trees and large herds of elephants. The Park also provides excellent habitat for lion, leopard, hyena, buffalo and many antelope species unique to East Africa including the lesser kudu, fringe-eared oryx, gerenuk and grants gazelle. Cheetah seem to prefer the more open plains in the southern part of the park and occasionally, wild dog can also be spotted.

The Park is 2850 sq. km in size and is located 118 km southwest of Arusha. Sandwiched between the plains of the Maasai Steppe to the south east and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north west, the Park is dominated by the Tarangire River which provides the only permanent water for wildlife in the area and from which the Park gets its name. There are vast swamps in the southern section of the Park which attract the huge herds and an incredible array of birds, especially in the green season when the Park is lush and green and at its most beautiful.

Located only 2.5 hours from the city of Arusha, Nimali Tarangire is the perfect starting point for the northern safari circuit.

A Day trip to the closest three National parks is within easy access. Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park & Ngorongoro Crater.

BY AIR:

• Kilimanjaro International airport is 3.5 hours drive.

• Arusha airport is 2.5 hours drive.

• Manyara airstrip is 1.5 hours drive.

• Kuro airstrip is 3 hours drive (we recommend a game drive and picnic lunch in the Tarangire National Park en route to Nimali Tarangire).
