Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see The Northern Lights from the lodge?

Octola's unique location within the Arctic Circle of Finnish Lapland really does offer some of the best Northern Light viewing available anywhere, both in terms of frequency and quality. The Lodge itself has been especially designed to make the most of the Northern Light views, with perfectly positioned floor to ceiling windows, viewing decks and numerous opportunities for outdoor viewing by open fires or Northern Light safaris. The Octola team are Northern Light specialists and are expert at predicting and finding them - and will come and wake you up, if requested, if the Lights put in a midnight appearance!

When is the best time to visit Lapland?

Lapland actually has 8 seasons, each one of them truly different and special. Octola is open year-round, and offers something magical during every month of the year - whether it's the incredible pink and purple skies of winter, where wood-burning saunas and state-of-the-art geothermal heating keep you cosy, the midnight sun in the summer, and the opportunity to view a huge variety of local wildlife in different habitats throughout the year (such as watching the migrating birds return to the arctic).

What are the best things to do in Lapland?

Octola is one of those properties designed for guests to do as much or as little as they like. At any time of the year, there are opportunities literally on the doorstep to see amazing wildlife, go ice swimming, snow-shoeing, tobogganing and cross-country skiing in winter or kayaking, wild-water swimming or white-water rafting in the summer. However, for something really unique, how about panning for gold, a 'luxury survival camp' experience, Amethyst mining, photography safaris, building and staying in your own igloo, a cruise on an ice-breaker, floating in icy water in a survival suit under the Northern Lights - or even taking a trip to the North Pole.

Can Octola accommodate events?

As Octola can accommodate over 30 guests, as well as extra accommodation for staff, as an exclusive-use property it's perfect for parties, corporate events and weddings. Bespoke itineraries and dining options can be produced for groups of all sizes, and Arctic weddings can take place in an ice chapel.
